Searchable Databases
The databases listed below provide users with immediate access to the herbarium
collections housed in the International Plant Science Center, bibliographic
records of books and serials held in the LuEsther T. Mertz Library, location
and accession information regarding NYBG living collections, and valuable
references.
- The Virtual Herbarium
A database of plant and fungal data transcribed from specimen labels
of the NYBG collections. Included in the catalog are high-resolution
digital images of the Garden's vascular plant type specimens. An average
of 7,500 new specimen records and 5,000 images are added to the database
each month.
- Index Herbariorum
A detailed directory of the public herbaria of the world and their associated
staff members. Information contained in the database includes acronyms,
addresses, contact information, and notes.
- Index to American
Botanical Literature
A compendium of literature, both serials and books, that deal with various
aspects of plants of the Americas, from Greenland to Antarctica. It
is compiled from literature of the LuEsther T. Mertz Library. Reprints
are welcome by the compiler who will have the article included in the
IABL database and the reprint deposited in the Library.
- CATALPA (the Library Catalog
of the LuEsther T. Mertz Library)
A database of bibliographic records for all books and serials held by
the Library. Users are able to select, save and export records.
- Search the NYBG
Living Collections
A resource allowing users to search scientific and common names for
the Garden's living plant collections to obtain accession numbers and
Ground's location.
- Search the
Databases of Living Collections of Multiple Botanical Institutions
A resource allowing users to search scientific and common names of living
collections from multiple botanical institutions from the United States
and Europe simultaneously. Users are able to obtain accession and location
information.
