Gyrodon exiguus Singer & Digilio

Photograph by R. E. Halling, © 1998

This bolete grows on soil, often in disturbed sites, and seems not to form ectomycorrhizae. It can occur in the montane neotropics but seems to be located outside ectotrophic forests. It has a lateral stipe, coarsely radiating cyanescent hymenophore and produces olive brown rhizomorphs over the soil. It appears widely distributed in tropical America.
