This variety of A. flavoconia was orginally described based on collections from Colombia. In Costa Rica, var. inquinata occurs throughout the montane regions. An orange brown pileus, white to yellow to orange stipe having a small bulb at the base, yellow membranous partial veil and yellow detersile universal veil are distinctive. It differs from the type variety in the brown tones of the pileus and in details of spore morphology. A detailed description can be found in Mem. New York Bot. Garden 66: 30. 1992.
