Associate Curator of Glasshouse Collections (Horticulture - Position Application Number: H-1491):
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Associate Curator of Glasshouse Collections is responsible for the evaluation and inventory, and for assisting with the development and management of the plant collections of the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory and the Nolen Greenhouses for Living Collections at NYBG. These collections include the Tropical, Desert, and Aquatic collections in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory and the Orchid, Succulent, Tropical, Desert and Horticulture collections in the Nolen Greenhouses. He/She assists with the preparation of selected publications, profiles and printed material regarding the glasshouse plant collections. Works with the Associate Vice President for Glasshouses and Exhibitions, Horticulture Curators, and Managers for the best coordination of work. Works closely with Capital Projects and Operations staff to best facilitate construction; repair and project work in the glasshouses, as appropriate. Works closely with all NYBG departments to facilitate, coordinate and implement where appropriate, best work for Garden Events, Public Service activities, and Educational Services. Works closely with the Director of Glasshouses, outside designers, and Horticulture managers and curators and implement displays and exhibitions in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory and Bourke-Sullivan Display House.
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or related field.
· Minimum 3 years experience working with diverse collections of tropical and glasshouse plants in a public garden, university, or similar institution.
· Demonstrated knowledge of a wide variety of tropical and glasshouse plants.
· Excellent communication abilities, including speaking, writing and presentation skills.
· Excellent computer skills.
