Ernest Lyman Scott is most well known for developing the Standard Blood Test for Diabetes in 1914. Both he and his wife held PhD.'s in Physiology with minors in Botany. Scott was a member of the faculty at Columbia University from 1912 until his retirement in 1942. Upon his retirement, Scott truly began his second career as a horticulturist. Dr. Scott was one of the founders and first president of the National Chrysanthemum Society of America. Mrs. Aletia Scott was on of the founders of the American Primrose Society. In addition to these activites, Scott published a book called Chrysanthmums For Pleasure, which is unfortunately out of print.
This collection cosists of 3 bound scrapbooks. Two scrapbooks document the building of the Scotts' garden at their home in Bogota, New Jersey, while the third book documents a variety of trees from around the country; includes detailed locations.
