Mertz Library is home to an extensive collection of books from throughout the past millennium, including one of the oldest known copies of the 12th-century herbal manuscript Circa Instans. Join us as Stephen Sinon gives us a rare glimpse of some of the Mertz Library’s oldest and most prized books in its collection.

About the Speaker

Stephen Sinon is the Mertz Library’s William B. O’Connor Curator of Special Collections, Research, and Archives, and has been on staff at the Garden for the past 25 years. He has studied landscape design history at Oxford University and has enrolled in many courses at the University of Virginia’s Rare Book School. He is the Garden’s Archivist and Historian for the Torrey Botanical Society and has served on the board of the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries and the Society of American Archivists.
