Peter Wohlleben is a German forester writing on ecological themes. He has worked as a ranger for government owned woodlands since his graduation from forestry school (1987) and manages a beech forest in Hümmel, Germany.
Having grown more familiar with the woodlands, he became disenchanted with the techniques commonly used for their upkeep, including the felling of mature trees and the use of insecticides, and has introduced new systems for their management. In his groundbreaking book, The Hidden Life of Trees, What They Feel, How They Communicate – Discoveries from a Secret World, Wohlleben shares his experiences and explains the forest’s hidden forces.
