Flag Phrag - December 2020
Common Reed (Phragmites australis subsp. australis), also known as “Phrag,” is very aggressive in disturbed sites where it forms extensive monospecific stands (e.g., New Jersey Meadowlands).
Estuaries and marshes are some of the most productive ecosystems on Earth, but their transformation to communities of one invasive species such as Phrag degrades their dynamic structure, diversity, and ecological benefits.
Help NYBG document as many Common Reed plants in New York City as possible by December 31.
