Councilmember Amanda Farías Takes Part in Urban Advantage Family Science Day
NYBG had the pleasure of a visit from Councilmember Amanda Farías for our Urban Advantage (UA) Family Science Day on Sunday, October 30, in our Everett Children’s Adventure Garden. She enjoyed first-hand experience with some of the work done by Bronx students under the UA initiative—exploring the world of microorganisms, observing omnivorous plants, and handling worms.
Urban Advantage was launched with the leadership support of the New York City Council in 2004, and has since become a thriving partnership between the City’s science-rich cultural institutions and the NYC Department of Education. Since its inception, UA has continued to offer the best model for science education to both elementary and middle school students in the Bronx. It also provides professional development for teachers who are on the frontline of learning and career introduction for Bronx students.
Our thanks to Councilmember Farías for spending some time with us and for your gracious support of NYBG’s educational programs!
