Sneak Peek: ‘The Orchid Show: On Broadway’
Posted in Behind the Scenes, Exhibitions, The Orchid Show on February 23 2011, by Plant Talk
Opening night for The Orchid Show: On Broadway is getting closer by the day, and that means that Garden staff are hard at work wrangling orchids inside the historic Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. We thought you might like a sneak peek before the curtain comes up on this flower show full of showstoppers, star turns, and old favorites.
But that’s not all! The Orchid Show: On Broadway will also feature live music on weekends at the Broadway Cabaret; the opportunity to view rarely seen works by the don of Broadway, Al Hirschfeld, during Hirschfeld’s Broadway Scrapbook; and to attend classes, talks, and tours that will help demystify the art of caring for orchids at home.
The Shop in the Garden will be selling rare and beautiful orchids so you can bring a piece of the show home with you, while the Garden’s two cafes will be serving delicious fare inspired by the very finest Broadway delis. A day spent at The Orchid Show: On Broadway is a day full of wonder and fun for the whole family. And it’s easy to get here! Just take Metro North directly to our own Botanical Garden Station on the Harlem Line. This limited-run horticultural engagement opens Friday, March 5 and closes on April 25, no matter the rave reviews. Learn more and buy your tickets now!
Exciting news. Last year I attended my first orchid show, Cuba in Flower, and was blown away. Not sure what to expect, I could not believe the beauty and rich diversity of these magnificent flowers. And the colors and arrangements brought to mind the most beautiful paintings I’ve ever seen. The crew that designs these shows has my profound admiration. Cuba in Flower far exceeded my expectations. I’m really looking forward to this year’s show!
