An Early-Summer Stroll Down Daylily Walk
Posted in What's Beautiful Now on June 30 2011, by Ann Rafalko
Today I sauntered down Daylily Walk at lunchtime. Daylily Walk runs from Perennial Way (the road that goes in front of the Conservatory), past the Garden Cafe, down a little hill, and then takes a jag to the left running parallel to Garden Way (the road in front of the Library Building where the Greenmarket is held) (map). Daylily Walk is currently a riot of color and a study in fabulous plant names. Come check out the amazing diversity of daylilies!
Just a note: Please remember that plants come and go based on natural genetic tendencies and weather, so the flowers you see here might not be around when you come to visit. What we can promise you is that you’ll always see something beautiful! For up to the minute information on what is in bloom and beautiful right now, follow us on Twitter, @nybg. If you have a favorite flower, tree, or plant and want to know if it’s in full bloom, tweet us a question and we’ll ask the horticulture staff and get back to you as soon as possible!
Hi…..Trying to create a daffodil/daylilly memorial Garden for a local college in meory of a beloved teacher that passed away…..how wide do you think I should make the beds and do you think I need to include any evergreen groundcover to give it four
seasons of interest? As it stands now, the beds in the design are 3’wide and are along various walkways surrounding a patio with a gazebo in the center. They are pretty much each 10′ long, some are shorter. Shall I plant the daffs in a random pattern more or less through the center of the dayliltys? Any suggestions as to what daffs would work best? Was considering the mix that Spring Hill offers, but not sure if the heights will work with the emerging daylillys…….Thank you so much for your thougts!
