July Photo Contest Winners – Things are Cookin’ for August!

It’s the second month of our photo contest, and a hearty congratulations to Barbara Reiner for winning our second monthly NYBG-IGPOTY photography contest. The NYBG photo judges had a tough time picking the winner this month, but in the end felt that Barbara’s rose triptych just edged out cindy {k}’s scene among the tulips for this month’s theme “American Beauty.” Barbara will receive a NYBG gift pack, which includes two All-Garden Passes, a $25 credit towards the Adult Education class of her choice, a catalog for the Library exhibition Historical Views: Tourists at the Alhambra, and the catalog from Hirschfeld’s Broadway Scrapbook. We’re also still working on getting copies of the photography book, Better Plant and Garden Photography, written by IGPOTY founder Philip Smith, over from the U.K. as well. Congratulations Barabara! Please send us an email with your contact information through this form (select website from the pull-down menu).
The second place photo, the tulip scene taken by cindy {k}, was a tough one not to give the top prize to (leading to much heated debate amongst the NYBG judges)
Once again in the third place spot is a stunning photo of the waterlily pools taken by Trish Mayo, ever so appropriately named “perfect day.”
For the August contest, we are proud to announce the theme is “Kids in the Garden.” This coincides with “Mario Batali’s Edible Garden” which will kick off on August 27th. Until then, the vegetable and herb beds designed specifically for celebrity chef Mario Batali are busy growing all the yummy produce he uses in his many restaurants. So in that spirit, we’re looking for your photos of kids (or maybe taken by your kids) in any garden (not just the Garden) whether they are working, exploring or doing what they do best (getting dirty!) we want to see them! Just add them to the NYBGFlickr group and please tag your photos with the term nybgigpoty3. The winner will receive a special prize. More details soon!
i’m happy to be included and sandwiched between such gorgeous photos. can’t beat beautiful red roses and water lilies. thank you so much!
