Three-Day Weekend at the Garden

For a lot of people in the New York-area this weekend is a three-day weekend! To celebrate, the Garden will be open Monday, October 10, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. And you know what makes it even better? The weather forecast is looking gorgeous! Such a welcome change after so many grey, rainy, dreary weekends.
What is there to do on a beautiful fall weekend at The New York Botanical Garden? So much! There’s kiku and bonsai, leaf peeping in the Forest, the Haunted Pumpkin Garden, walking tours, birdwatching, home gardening demonstrations, music performances, and so much more (don’t forget to stop and smell the roses). The Garden is never the same two days in a row, so come spend a day in one of the world’s greatest urban gardens, The New York Botanical Garden! See the full schedule below, and plan your visit now.
Saturday, October 8
Bird Walk – 11 a.m.
Meet at the Reflecting Pool in the Leon Levy Visitor Center
Search for the birds that use the Botanical Garden in various seasons. Bring your binoculars and walk the Garden grounds with our bird expert, Debbie Becker, looking for the species that live here year-round as well as those just migrating through: owls, hawks, songbirds, and more. Learn about the bird-friendly plants and habitats that provide food, shelter, and nesting sites.
Spooktacular Pumpkin Party – 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Everett Children’s Adventure Garden
Delight in the fantastical creations of master puppeteer Ralph Lee! Take part in spooky storytelling, puppet-making, and loads of creepy hands-on fun for the entire family. Enjoy seasonal treats courtesy of Whole Foods Market.
Halloween Parades – 12 & 2 p.m.
Everett Children’s Adventure Garden
Kids of all ages are encouraged to wear scary costumes for parades through the Haunted Pumpkin Garden.
Bonsai Q&A – 12-4 p.m.
At Shop in the Garden
Ask experts from the Yama Ki Bonsai Society and Shanti Bithi Nursery as well as Garden Tour Guides all about the art of bonsai, miniaturizing mature shrubs and trees to create living sculptures. Browse the offerings from Shop in the Garden and select one to take home.

Meet at the Reflecting Pool at the Leon Levy Visitor Center
The sights and scents of the season flourish across the 250-acres of the Botanical Garden. Join a Garden Tour Guide for a walking tour featuring highlights of the gardens and plant collections.
Traditional Japanese Music and Dance Performances – 1 & 3 p.m.
In the Ross Performance Hall
The Tomofuji-kai Japanese Music and Dance Company employs the samisen (three-stringed instrument), hand drums, and vocals, for a classical musical performance with dance evocative of traditional Japanese culture.
Home Gardening Demonstration: Autumn Centerpieces – 2 p.m.
In the Perennial Garden
Arrangements can include more than beautiful flowers. Explore the endless possibilities of creating decorative table settings with the bounty of the season.
Guided Tour of Fall Flowers of Japan – 2:30 p.m.
Meet at the entrance to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory
Autumn’s splendor comes to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory in Fall Flowers of Japan, a constantly changing exhibition highlighting the incredible diversity of fall-flowering plants from Japan. Join a Garden Tour Guide for a guided tour of the exhibition, featuring Japanese maples and toad lilies, camellias and anemones, and an unforgettable display of kiku–Japanese chrysanthemums–trained to grow in a mesmerizing variety of shapes and styles.

Meet at the entrance to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory
Explore the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, an acre of plants under glass, with one of the Garden’s Tour Guides. Take an ecotour around the world through 11 distinct habitats, including two types of rain forest, deserts of the Americas and of Africa, and aquatic and carnivorous plant displays. Admission included with an All-Garden Pass.
