For the past 20 days, our visitors have shared their fondest memories from 20 years of the Holiday Train Show–some of them touching, some comical, and every one of them cherished. Each day Plant Talk has featured a new story, which you can see the last of after the jump, along with a feature on one of the many replica New York City landmarks on display in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory–the Guggenheim Museum, Yankee Stadium, the Empire State Building and more.

As a bonus, read on to find out how you can win a Family Four-Pack of Holiday Train Show tickets for yourself! Today is your last chance!

Forgotten Troubles

My best memory about the Holiday Train Show came last year, in 2010. Having been diagnosed with leukemia, my son had just finished his first round of chemo and he really wanted to see the Train Show. I was so nervous to bring him because he was weak and worn out, but he was so thrilled by the show that I think he forgot about his health issues.

I hadn’t seen him so chipper and animated in months, so it was very exciting for me. He’s always been a big train buff, and the Holiday Train Show was right up his alley. I’ll always remember how much it made him smile, and how he forgot about his cancer for an afternoon.

P.S.–He’s doing wonderfully. We’ll be back again this year. He’ll have hair this time.

Yankee Stadium

Yankee StadiumIn 1921, the New York Yankees purchased 10 acres of property in the Bronx to build a new ballpark. The stadium, completed in just 284 days, was ready for the inaugural game on April 18, 1923, against the Boston Red Sox. Because legendary slugger Babe Ruth’s draw as a baseball legend helped make the new structure possible, it became known as “The House That Ruth Built.”

The original stadium, which underwent later renovations before ultimately being replaced in 2009, is memorialized in our replica.
