“We arrived just after closing, but the Garden staff still let us in and kept the lights on.”
From now until December 17, our visitors will be sharing their fondest memories from 20 years of the Holiday Train Show–some of them touching, some comical, and every one of them cherished. Come back to Plant Talk each day for a new story, which you can see after the jump along with a feature on one of the many replica New York City landmarks on display in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory–the Guggenheim Museum, Yankee Stadium, the Empire State Building and more.
As a bonus, read on to find out how you can win a Family Four-Pack of Holiday Train Show tickets for yourself!
We were on the way to a New Year’s Eve party in Manhattan maybe seven or eight years ago, myself dressed for black tie and she in a ball gown. We arrived just after closing, but the Garden staff still let us in and kept the lights on.
They must have felt sorry for us, or perhaps appreciated that we were well-dressed–I’m not sure which. But the place was empty and we had it all to ourselves. A magical evening.

Apollo Theater
Located in Harlem, the Apollo Theater is one of the most famous music halls in the United States and is known for playing host to a great many performers through the years. The neo-classical building was designed in 1913 by George Keister and first owned by Sidney Cohen, changing hands several times before becoming a landmark under the ownership of the State of New York.
Many famous African-American musicians got their start at The Apollo during Amateur Night, an event where young performers could showcase their talents before a live audience.
