Morning Eye Candy: Pinhole Passion Flower

Friend of the Garden Joel Kroin usually turns his pinhole camera on the Garden’s stark winter landscapes. But even he isn’t immune to the siren call of the tropical Conservatory, as evidenced by this beautiful shot.

Love that passion flower!. It looks as if it is one of the cerulean passion flowers. Growing up in Australia, most of the gardeners decorated their wooden fences with the vines of the passionflower. The dark purple fruit thrived, until the weight of the fruit bent the long fences forward, almost to the ground! Delicious fruit mixed with other summer fruit!
Now, I live in New York city, and even in this northern clime, I have seen some vines decorating a few brownstone houses. The vines are skimpy, but desparately trying to grow. Once or twice, the flowers managed to produce fruits. New Yorkers are hardy creatures!
