The Rose Garden Celebration kicks off tomorrow! And without a moment to spare—the roses are already at 60% of peak color as of today. Don’t miss the blooms or the entertainment. Click through for full details on performances, tours, food and drink vendors, and expert-led Q&A sessions. You can even make your own watercolor painting! Please note that there will be no film screenings or performances in Ross Hall this weekend. You’ll find the entertainment outdoors! This weekend only is also Dig! Plant! Grow!: Global Gardens Spring Harvest Celebration. Bring your kids on a culinary journey around the world!
Saturday, June 7
Bird Walk – 11 a.m.
Meet at the Reflecting Pool at the Leon Levy Visitor Center.
The diverse habitats of the Botanical Garden offer visitors a chance to see dozens of species of birds throughout the year. Bring your binoculars and walk the Garden grounds with an expert to learn about bird-friendly habitats, migrating species, and birds that make a permanent home at the Garden.

Meet at the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden.
Immerse yourself in the fragrance, color, and beauty of the award-winning Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden on a tour with a Garden Tour Guide. Learn the differences between Heritage and Modern roses and between floribundas and hybrid teas as well as facts about rose history, cultivation, and folklore.
Music & Dance Among the Roses – 11 a.m.–5 p.m.
Phonograph DJ – 11–11:30 a.m.; 4:15–5 p.m. & between sets
Travel back in time with the Phonograph DJ Haar as he spins original ragtime, pop, jazz and dance music from the first quarter of the 20th century. Celebrity barber & radio host, Michael W. Haar, DJ’s on two antique Phonograph machines. He spins original jazz recordings from 1917-1927 on the players, which are hand-cranked and require the needle to be changed for every record! Mr. Haar can be found cutting hair at Fellow Barber in Soho, New York. He can be heard on WFMU.org and 91.1FM every Tuesday evening, hosting “The Ragged Phonograph Program” as Mike the Barber. Dance Performance of “Grass” by Jennifer Muller/The Works- 11:30 a.m.
Jennifer Muller/The Works performs a piece that made its World Premiere last year at New York Live Arts during their June season, loosely based on Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass. Jennifer Muller/The Works, now in its 39th year, applies a multi-disciplinary technique that weaves dance, theater and visual arts to create dances that celebrate and illuminate the human spirit. With passion and excellence, The Works has presented its artistry in 39 countries on four continents, electrifying audiences here and abroad, educating youth and serving the community with vital outreach.
From Ragtime to Jazz: The Roots of Pop – 12, 1, 2:30, & 3:30 p.m.

Jazz up your afternoon with these live sets of classic tunes. From ragtime and jazz to Broadway and beyond, dance along to favorites by the likes of Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and more.
About the Artist: Gelber & Manning is a Brooklyn-based musical vaudeville duo, comprised of Jesse Gelber on piano and Kate Manning on vocals. They specialize in ragtime and early jazz styles, in addition to performing original songs. Gelber & Manning can be found performing as a duo act or with their band at New York’s hottest vintage events. Their latest project is a new musical about Storyville, New Orleans, entitled Where All The Rivers Go To Sleep.
Watercolor Painting – Demonstration 1–3 p.m.; Ongoing materials loan
Pick up a palette and let the Garden be your muse. Borrow materials and set yourself up in a number of inspiring shady overlooks at the Rose Garden. Elissa Gore, Botanical Art Instructor at the Garden, will be on site from 1 to 3 p.m. to share tips for helping you create your own masterpiece.
About the Artist: Elissa Gore, MA, is an award-winning landscape painter, has many years of experience teaching college painting and drawing classes.
Raffles for Rose Plants – 12:30 & 2 p.m.

Family Adventures: Focusing on Nature 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
In the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden
Children will explore the art of garden photography and will even have the opportunity to become garden photographers themselves. Through a series of stops within the Garden, they will see the world through a new lens as they learn how observations in science and nature have been recorded throughout time. They will also receive tips about perspective, scale, and framing when taking photographs.
