Weekly Wildlife at the Garden: Daylight Stroll

I found this elusive creature down the slope from Wamsler Rock. I had heard rumors from other Garden staff that opossums were regulars at NYBG, but never thought I would actually see one!

I am surprised that you were able to see an opossum because they are nocturnal. We have a huge mom and a little one visiting our deck. We leave food out for a stray cat and when the cat doesn’t show up, the opossums have a good meal!

Hi Pat: your sighting is exciting…last night we saw several skunks on our neighbors lawn…they moved in unison ….undulating…very beautiful…..

we’ve also seen opossum at night…

it’s as if the animals have a way of telegraphing “Pat’s around…let’s show up…!”
