This Weekend: A Special Poetry Reading & The Return of Orchid Evenings

This weekend, NYBG is thrilled to host celebrated poet Ada Limón for a special poetry reading on Saturday, inspired by The Orchid Show: Orchidelirium. Admission is included with the purchase of an All-Garden Pass, so any and all visitors to the exhibition are encouraged to attend.
Tomorrow is also the first of the season’s Orchid Evenings, so get your tickets and take in the splendor of The Orchid Show: Orchidelirium after hours with cocktails, refreshments, a live DJ, and expert-led talks. Saturday, March 5
Bird Walk – 11 a.m.
Meet at the Reflecting Pool at the Leon Levy Visitor Center.
Bring your binoculars and walk the Garden grounds with a bird expert. You’ll search for our feathered friends and learn more about bird-friendly habitats, passage birds, and those that make a permanent home at the Garden.
Garden Highlights Tour – 12:30 p.m.
Meet at the Reflecting Pool at the Leon Levy Visitor Center
Sights and scents flourish across the 250 acres of the Botanical Garden. Join a Garden Guide for a walking tour featuring highlights of the gardens and plant collections.

Orchids fascinate and touch the lives of people in every country and culture. Hear stories about the travel and discoveries of early orchid collectors and delight in the music and dance of the countries they explored. Different artists perform throughout the season, highlighting many cultures.

In partnership with the Poetry society of America and keeping with The Orchid Show’s exploration theme, the poetry on display in the spring celebrates spring, flowers, and beauty. During this special reading that compliments the ongoing Poetry walk, meet Ada Limón as she reads selected works on nature and poems from her collections.

Notable Tree Tour – 2:30 p.m.
Meet at the Reflecting Pool at the Leon Levy Visitor Center
What makes a tree notable? It could be its size, its bark, its uses, or a variety of other features. Some of our trees have been here since before the Garden was formally established in 1891. Join one of the Garden’s Guides for a tour highlighting some of the most interesting trees across this historic 250-acre site.

Stroll through The Orchid Show: Orchidelrium with a cocktail in hand while music and unmatched beauty create one of New York City’s most romantic date destinations. On select evenings, upgrade your experience with the Young Garden Circle Orchid Lounge for skip-the-line access; an open bar featuring beer, wine, and specialty cocktails; and light bites for an unforgettable night. NYBG Shop will be open through 9:30 p.m. and DJ Julio will be in the Conservatory.

Everett Children’s Adventure Garden
Inside the cozy Discovery Center kids of all ages can take a closer look at the wonders of plants and animals in winter. Make bark rubbings, count tree rings, craft a bud necklace and head back into the winter garden with a field notebook to discover the vital sparks of life that lie just below the surface of this quiet season in the Northeast.
