The long weekend is here, and just in time for the final week of the Holiday Train Show! Don’t miss your chance to see our botanical homage to famous New York sights—and explore plenty of our other events and activities. Bring your little ones for the last performances of All Aboard with Thomas & Friends, head to the Mertz Library for a look into the architectural history of our landmark Haupt Conservatory, get outside to explore winter interest—like newly emerging snowdrops—in our collections, and so much more.
With NYBG being open for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 20, it’s the perfect time to catch the Holiday Train Show before it disappears for the winter. The show continues through January 26 with all-new highlights from Central Park.
We each have our favorite New York landmark replicas in the Holiday Train Show. Tell us yours—and what you’d love to see added in the future!
Take a look at some of our staff-favorite buildings from the exhibition, like the original Penn Station, the Statue of Liberty, and the Guggenheim Museum. See these and other familiar favorites as the show continues through January 26!
The beauty of the Holiday Train Show isn’t just found in the trains and landmark replicas—but the plants, as well! Take the time to pore over the species that create the colors and textures of the landscapes, forming the world in miniature that makes this exhibition a holiday favorite in NYC.
It’s almost here—the Holiday Train Show opens tomorrow! Hear from Laura Busse Dolan, President of Applied Imagination, giving you a sneak peek into what’s new this year from their workshop, including Central Park’s iconic landscape and architecture and all-new train track layouts. It’s all presented in an immersive indoor winter wonderland.

One of the rewards for leading plant science workshops at the GreenSchool in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory for school groups is often the lovely drawings and letters of thanks we receive from students afterward. However, when we received the garden-inspired artwork of Mrs. Foley’s fourth graders from P.S. 107 in Flushing after they visited the Holiday Train Show in December, I knew from their drawings and writing that these were not just obligatory thank you notes, but recollections of heartfelt experiences.
NYBG will be open for regular Garden Hours this Monday, January 18, for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the final day of this season’s Holiday Train Show®. Only three days remain to experience this all-new and bigger than ever exhibition, so plan a family outing to the Garden as you enjoy the long weekend! View the full schedule of programs and events for this Saturday, Sunday, and Monday below.
Don’t forget that there’s still time to grab tickets to our last Bar Car Nights of the year, tonight and tomorrow, January 15 and 16. And if you have little ones, remember that our All Aboard with Thomas & Friends mini-performances—not to mention the Evergreen Express activities in the Adventure Garden—will continue through January 24!
We’re into 2016, now, and though winter’s been slow to wake since December, we’re finally starting to see a dip in the thermometer–I even saw some flurries on the way in this morning! With thoughts of snow on our minds, and the Holiday Train Showkeeping up the cheer through January 18, it’s a great time to visit the Garden and make your holidays last.
This month features more Bar Car Nights for adults, the start of All Aboard with Thomas & Friends mini-performances for kids, and plenty of tours—both indoor and out—to take advantage of during this interesting season of transition. Check out the video below for more info on what to expect during the final weeks of our holiday exhibition!
After 24 years of delighting audiences with its cheerful collection of trains, tracks, and iconic New York City landmarks, the Holiday Train Show returned to NYBG this past weekend, November 21, with a bunch of new experiences in tow! Not only is this year’s exhibition the biggest it’s ever been, with 3,000 square feet of additional exhibition space, but it boasts new trains, bridges, and dining options for guests of all ages to enjoy.
Saturday’s grand opening saw people from all over the New York region stopping by the Garden to see the show, explore our 250-acre landscape in late fall, and try out tasty treats from Frosty’s Schnapps Haus and the Gingerbread Café, our latest dining additions alongside the Pine Tree Café and Hudson Garden Grill. And on Sunday, with an incredible sunset streaking the sky with pinks and purples overhead, city guests and visitors gathered near the Visitor Center for our annual holiday tree lighting.
