Orchid Evenings Return to Warm Up Your Nights

The Orchid Show: ChandeliersFor the return of the Orchid Show, celebrating its 13th year with an expanded display of living chandeliers that fills the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, Orchid Evenings are back! The Garden’s Victorian glasshouse is bursting with color and fragrance, and you have nine opportunities to take in the dazzling array of orchids with cocktails, refreshments, and live entertainment.

On March 7, 14, 19, 21, 28, and April 4, 11, 17, and 18, guests at Orchid Evenings will enjoy the Garden after the sun sets. From 6:30 to 9 p.m., The Pine Tree Café will have beer, wine, cocktails, and snacks available for purchase alongside Latin Jazz served up by the Nick Russo Latin Trio. Each ticket includes one complimentary beer, wine, or cocktail, and each ticket specifies an entry time to experience The Orchid Show: Chandeliers in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. Entry times for the Conservatory are at 6:30, 7, and 7:30 p.m., but once inside visitors are free to stay as long as they please to enjoy the spectacle of thousands of hanging orchids, the sound of live DJs, and a quick touch-up by one of Guerlain’s famed make-up artists. Wild Medicine Photo Contest Winners: Week 4

The Orchid Show Candeliers Haupt Conservatory Wild Medicine Photo Contest NYBGWhile the exhibit may have ended last Sunday to make way for the forthcoming Orchid Show, this year’s Wild Medicine Photo Contest collected its final round of submissions this past week. We are pleased to announce here on Plant Talk the fourth and final round of weekly winners! Photos uploaded to the NYBG Flickr Group Pool are no longer being accepted for consideration.

Two of the talented photographers previously recognized over the past four weeks will be chosen as our Grand Prize winners—one in the Macro category and another for Sense of Place. The Grand Prize is a free seat in the Adult Education Photography class of their choice. Click through to admire the latest round of beautiful qualifying photos!

This Weekend: Culinary Kids Week & Last Chance to Experience Winter Exhibitions

This weekend we want to wish a happy birthday to our friends at Let’s Move! This year marks the fifth anniversary of the First Lady’s initiative to raise a healthier generation of kids, so come celebrate with NYBG at Carla Hall’s Culinary Kids Week through February 22.

This Sunday is also the final day of two popular winter exhibitions, Wild Medicine in the Tropics in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory and Flora Illustrata: A Celebration of Botanical Masterworks in the LuEsther T. Mertz Library. Complete your experience of these beautiful exhibitions—highlighting the Garden’s permanent collection of medicinal tropical plants and the Library’s rare manuscripts and botanical artworks—with special tours.
