This season’s Holiday Train Show® is on view through January 18, but Evergreen Express continues to provide seasonal family fun in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden through January 24. Kids pass through station stops during their visit, each featuring a unique and educational activity designed to explore the world of evergreens.
In the cozy Discovery Center Depot, children make their own herbarium pressings of a conifer specimen and craft a miniature scented sachet to take home. The Adventure Garden is full of trails that guide children through the trees and shrubs of winter.
There is an outdoor puppet theater available for children, and on weekends and school holidays, kids can create a train puppet inspired by master puppeteer Ralph Lee and join a musical marching parade.
Evergreen Express takes place Tuesdays through Sundays in the Adventure Garden, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and Sundays, and from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

All Aboard with Thomas & Friends™ mini-performances continue through January 24 as well, so plan a family excursion to NYBG in the next couple of weeks for winter fun!

We’re thrilled to present this year’s eagerly anticipated Giant Pumpkin Carving! Ray Villafane has outdone himself with this spooky and monumental homage to the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) as a nod to FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden, Life. The design is based on an early 20th-century satirical cartoon by the famous Mexican printmaker and illustrator Jose Guadalupe Posada. See it in person at the Clay Family Picnic Pavilions, alongside our annual Giant Pumpkin Display, through November 1!

From the first day of FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden, Life, we have been awestruck by the stellar Frida-inspired looks displayed by our visitors. Kahlo aficionados of all ages and from all over have flocked to the Garden in flower crowns, colorful shawls, and long skirts, entering the reimagined Casa Azul in the Haupt Conservatory while evoking the iconic artist. Without any prompting, many of the record number of visitors to see this show have put in impressive effort to make this a singular and heartwarming moment in the Garden’s nearly 125-year history.
To reward the enthusiasm of the art- and garden-lovers attending this exhibition, NYBG has held a series of Frida Look-Alike Contests during select evening events throughout the six-month run of FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden, Life. Thursday, October 22, is your last chance to participate in—or simply admire—these joyous and festive evenings of creative display. Register today for a chance to show off your best Frida and win a gift bag from NYBG Shop. An Honorable Mention will go out to whomever best incorporates an homage to Día de los Muertos in their outfit.
