Minute cactus specimens cover tables in the Nolen Greenhouses for Living Collections. I wonder how many of them will make it into our summer exhibition, FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden, Life.

Happy Father’s Day! Here’s to all the dads out there that—even if they’re a bit prickly—will always have a heart of gold. We’ll be chilling on Daffodil Hill for the Big Backyard BBQ all afternoon, so feel free to join us if you’re in the mood for good food, beer, and music.

Cactus in New York? Yes! Believe it or not, the Eastern Prickly-pear Cactus, Opuntia humifusa, is native to these parts and can be seen growing near Split Rock in the Native Plant Garden.

Don’t overlook the desert houses when you visit the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory for the Holiday Train Show. It may not be conventional holiday beauty, but it’s undeniable nonetheless.

It may look soft and fuzzy, and maybe even a wee bit cute, but this little cactus in the Deserts of the Americas house in the Conservatory is none of the things. Except maybe a little cute.
