Thomas the Tank Engine

The Holiday Train Show in 2015 is the biggest and best its ever been, and because the holiday season doesn’t end with December, we’re keeping it going well into January—the 18th, in fact! But that’s not the only thing going on as the new year breaks on NYBG. You’ll want to stick around for the arrival of a familiar tank engine to our Ross Hall.
All Aboard with Thomas & Friends™ returns January 2–24 for what is easily one of our most beloved annual traditions. Kids and their families are invited to join us in Ross Hall for sing-along mini-performances with Thomas and his friend Driver Sam, helping them decorate the station in time for the big Sodor surprise party before the guest of honor arrives. It’s a fun and inclusive event that welcomes participation, and it’s sure to make your little one’s day. After the show, make sure to have a professional photo taken with Thomas to capture the moment!
Tickets to these special performances are timed, and we recommend registering online in advance to ensure you get your preferred spot. But there are plenty of opportunities to meet Thomas and celebrate the season!

With the holidays upon us and the New Year just around the corner, the Holiday Train Show begins the next season of winter fun on January 3 when All Aboard with Thomas & Friends™ pulls into the station! Everyone’s favorite train comes to life as Thomas and Driver Sam star in these fun-filled, sing-along, mini-performances each day at various times through January 25. Be sure to bring your camera for a photo-op with Thomas, or purchase a souvenir photo from our professional photographers.
Check the full schedule of upcoming performances, including special 9 a.m. Members-only performances on select dates. MasterCard cardholders can also enjoy priority VIP seating on January 4 & 11!
When purchasing your ticket, please be sure to select the All-Garden Pass ticket option that specifies All Aboard with Thomas & Friends Mini-Performance & All-Garden Pass. All Aboard with Thomas & Friends™ includes access to the Holiday Train Show through January 19. Thomas tickets purchased for January 23 through 29 include access to Wild Medicine in the Tropics. While there is no additional cost for the mini-performance, this is the only ticket type that allows access to All Aboard with Thomas & Friends™.

What’s better than the Holiday Train Show? How about when we combine the Holiday Train Show with All Aboard with Thomas & Friends! That’s right, starting on New Year’s Day your train-crazy little ones can get a double dose of all things train in one single day (and if you take Metro-North Rail Road to Botanical Garden Station, that’s a triple dose of all things train!).
Running through January 26, your kids can join Thomas and Driver Sam on a new fun-filled, sing-along, mini performance adventure by helping them decorate the station in time for the big Sodor surprise party before the guest of honor arrives! At the end, be sure to have your camera ready for an exciting photo op with the stars of the show!

Do the kids visiting the NYBG love Thomas the Tank Engine™? That’s a little like asking if the moon guides the tides. Just imagine what it would be like if these parents didn’t have the blue locomotive to keep the little ones quiet for a few spare moments. Better yet, don’t–it’s traumatic to consider.

There are three days between now and the end of the 20th Holiday Train Show. Hands in the Conservatory are already preparing to pull down the tracks and gently store away the trains and miniatures, and soon the space will host fresh events and exhibitions of a more tropical nature. It’s something of a bittersweet moment for those of us here at the NYBG; it wasn’t that long ago that Paul Busse’s team was rolling out the first of the city’s bridges.
Since we unveiled the display in early November, thousands of people–kids and adults, first-timers and yearly regulars–have passed through the glass doors of the dome to view our sparkling homage to the city and the season. And while we’re sad to see the delicate landmarks disappear until next fall, we’re making the most of the time we still have to show the holidays the proper bon voyage.

The holidays have come and gone, you’re well into your New Year’s recovery, and most of the kids are trudging back to school. But if you’ve still got little ones at home, you don’t have to feel trapped with them (it can be understandably harrowing). The New York Botanical Garden’s Holiday Train Show is still up and running through January 16, and as of this week we begin our two-week run of All Aboard with Thomas and Friends™.

Can you believe the Christmas weekend is already at our doorstep, and Hanukkah well underway? Before you can bat an eye, you’ll be up to your ears in New Year’s party planning while trying to decide on your resolutions for 2012 (as shaky as they always turn out in practice).
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves! If you’re in search of a way to entertain the in-laws and maybe a place to knock out those last few items on your all-too-lengthy gift list (nothing to be ashamed of; I’m so far behind on my shopping I’m thinking of giving everyone scratch-offs), there are still a few chances to catch the Holiday Train Show before Sunday.
