The diverse rooms of the Perennial Garden are coming into fashion this week as salvias and nepetas open up to the warm weather, and more is on deck as we near the summer season. In the Native Plant Garden, keep an eye out for Sarracenia species, their flute-like pitchers turned up to the sky all around the water feature. Native rhododendrons and azaleas in this garden are also making themselves known, as are perennials like Zizia aurea. Late spring is a beautiful time to explore NYBG!

The Matelich Peonies are the collection to spot this week, with dozens of pink, red, purple, and white flowers unfurling their large petals just outside the front doors of the Conservatory. Before it becomes the Rose Garden’s time to shine, these are some of the most colorful blooms you’ll see at the Garden! Elsewhere, the Lilac Collection is still showing color and fragrance, while the Garden’s abundant greenery fills out in preparation for summer.

Bright whites and fiery fuchsias define the Garden’s spring blooms this week, with flowering dogwoods and azaleas decked out in their seasonal finest. Look for pastel blues, pinks, and purples, too, thanks to the fragrant lilacs and gentle bluestars to be found in our collections.

With the early blooms of the daffodils, cherries, and magnolias winding down, we’re barreling right into azalea and crabapple season, with lilacs and tree peonies hot on their tails. The warm weather has flowers popping up in abundance throughout our many collections, so now’s the time to visit if you want to catch true Spring color in action.

With the daffodils and cherry blossoms having peaked, there’s still plenty to see of them around the Garden—but they won’t last forever, so don’t wait past this weekend. In turn, the azaleas are ramping up with wild abandon, making these spring stand-outs the big stars going into this warm, warm May weather.

Spring is here. For real here, as far as I’m concerned. And with daytime temps looking to be in the 60s for the rest of the week (fingers crossed), it’s a great time for our flowers to catch our flowers waking for the season. You’ll find cherry blossoms galore, fragrant magnolias, and daffodils in abundance cascading across Daffodil Hill, Liasson Valley, and elsewhere throughout the Garden. The azaleas won’t be far behind!

The spring spectacle is just now starting in earnest, with daffodils, cherry blossoms, and early azaleas beginning to make moves throughout the Garden. Look for magnolias, too, as we head for the end of April and into the expected kaleidoscope of color that makes up May. The next few weeks should be incredible for flower lovers!

Fall is here at last, and you can feel it in the air (we actually have to wear jackets this week!). That means the collections are dressing up in their autumn finery, from the changing leaves of the Forest, to the fall blooms of the Perennial Garden.
