Another member of subsection Foetentinae, this taxon has the benzaldehyde-like odor and an acrid taste. The pileus is sometimes slightly viscid, dark brown to yellow brown, but paler toward the pectinate margin. Brown stains develop on the lamellae and at the base of the stipe. The basidiospores have isolated warts and short or meandering ridges.
