This large agaric (subg. Phlegmacium) with viscid pileus and bulbous stipe base occurs regularly along the Rio Savegre in the Talamanca mountains at about 2200 m elevation under Quercus rapurahuensis. Faint tints of lilac occur in the lamellae with stronger lilac tints in the flesh of the stipe base. There appears to be a double cortina; the outer is brown and the inner one is white. Dr. J. Ammirati (Seattle) has the identification well in hand.
