Lactarius costaricensis Singer

This member of sect. Plinthogales appears to be endemic to Neotropical montane Quercus forests. The white latex that stains tissues pinkish, crowded lamellae, and gray brown pileus serve to distinguish it from other members of the section in the Neotropics. The species has also been found in the Andes of southern Colombia near Pasto.
