This taxon is associated with Alnus acuminata (= A. jorullensis) in the montane parts of Costa Rica. It was originally described from under alder in northern Argentina, but most likely occurs wherever that tree is distributed. We have personally documented distribution from Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina, and Costa Rica. The pores are cyanescent and coarsely elongated, olive brown sclerotia are produced in the soil around the base of the eccentric to lateral stipe. A description can be found in Mycotaxon 34: 104. 1989.
