Hydropus nigrita is a subcosmopolitan agaric according to R. Singer (Fl. Neotr. Monogr. 32: 15-17. 1982) occurring in both temperate and tropical regions. Also it is widely distributed over an elevational gradient from montane zones to lowland rainforests. It exudes a clear lquid when fresh basidiomata are cut open and blackens readily when bruised.
