Phaeocollybia quercetorum Singer
Photograph by R. E. Halling, © 1996.
This species was first described (Mycol. Helvetica 2: 254-255. 1987) from a single collection under oak near Empalme in the Cordillera Talamanca. We have found additional collections under Quercus seemanii and Q. copeyensis elsewhere in the Talamancas. Also, it has been collected under Q. humboldtii in Andean Colombia (Mycologia 83: 467-468. 1991). The lack of clamp connections and the large, limoniform, mucronate spores are diagnostic.
