This red to brownish lepiotoid agaric was first published as an example of the mycological similarity between Africa and America. It has a broad distribution in tropical America where it is known from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and El Salvador. Microscopically it is characterized by a hymeniform pileipellis with clavate to pyriform cells, clavate cheilocystidia, and reticulate, dextrinoid spores. Also, it has clamp connections. A recent description was published by A. E. Franco-M.(Mycologia 87: 574-578. 1995). |
