This stalked puffball is a recent discovery from Costa Rica. This specimen was just collected from a mixed stand of Comarostaphylis arbutoides and Quercus costaricensis at 3000 m elevation in the Cordillera Talamanca. The gasterocarps are 2-6 cm tall and the spore bearing sac has a detersile layer over the endoperidium. The genus is perhaps more frequently found in drier sites rather than in montane cloud forests.
