Wynnea americana has been reported previously from Costa Rica (Brenesia 14-15: 395-400. 1978) by Pfister & Gómez, and expertly described by Pfister (Mycologia 71: 144-159. 1979). The specimen illustrated was collected by T. Baroni in June 2003 near the Las Tablas Protected Zone in the southern Cordillera Talamanca and is on deposit at INBio.
