Scandent epiphytic shrub; stem terete to subterete, sometimes bluntly angled, striate to ribbed, glabrous or pilose and glabrate; bark cracking longitudinally, gray-black; twigs terete to subterete, bluntly angled, striate or ribbed, densely pilose with stramineos hairs to 1.3 mm long, particularly densely tufted at nodes, also with scattered, oblong, glabrous bracts to 10 mm long near base of current year's innovations. Leaves subcoriaceous, ovate to elliptic-ovate, 1.2-2.5(-3.4) x 0.5-1.6 cm, base rounded to broadly cuneate, very short-attentuate, apex cuspidate to short-acuminate, margin with lamina thin and proximally revolute, glabrous or sometimes ciliolate at tip, also with scattered, deciduous, glandular fimbriae beneath; 5-plinerved from the base, the nerves all weak, midrib impressed proximally above but plane distally, raised beneath, lateral nerves plane to obscure above and obscure to slightly raised beneath, reticulate veinlets obscure; petiole subterete, somewhat flattened above, rugose, 1.5-2 mm long, short-pilose. Inflorescence axillary, the flowers solitary, surrounded by a series of 5-6 persistent, striate, ovate, acute, weakly ciliolate and glandular-fimbriate bracts to 3.5 mm long; pedicel terete, striate, 0-3 mm long, glandular-fimbriate; bracteoles imbricate, completely enveloping entire calyx, elliptic-ovate to ± reniform, rounded, striate, 5-7 x ca. 5 mm, the apex usually splitting. Flowers 4-merous, with calyx 4.5-5 mm long, nearly glabrous; hypanthium cylindric-campanulate, rugose, ca. 2 mm long; limb spreading, ca. 3 mm long; lobes triangular, acute, ca. 2 mm long with few hairs at tip; sinuses acute; corolla cylindric-urceolate, (6-)8-11 mm long and to 5 mm diam. when dry, glabrous but with scattered glandular fimbriae, white, the lobes triangular, acute, reflexed, ca. 2 mm long; stamen 8, ca. 7.6 mm long; filaments 3.5-5 mm long, densely long-pilose distally along margins and ventrally; anthers ca. 4 mm long; thecae ca. 1.5 mm long; tubules 2, distinct, ca. 2.5 mm long, dehiscing by short clefts ca. 0.7 mm long; style as long as corolla, glabrous. Berry spherical, to 18 mm diam., glabrous, translucent white.
Distribution. Colombia and Ecuador; premontane
and montane cloud forest at 950-3048 m altitude.
