Blood in the Soil: Performance & Discussion

Saturday, April 27, 2024

1–2 p.m. | Ross Hall

Join us for an afternoon of movement and discussion honoring the rich history and legacy of Black farmers and agriculturalists. Under the creative direction of Artistic Director and Choreographer, Jeremy McQueen, The Black Iris Project will present two excerpts from their forthcoming evening-length ballet “Blood in the Soil” set to an original score by Alabama-rooted classical composer Brian R. Nabors. Following the performance, join us for a multi-generational discussion centering the Black and Indigenous connection to soil, featuring Karen Washington (Community Gardener and Activist), Jeremy McQueen (Artistic Director for Black Iris Project), LaParis Phillips (Owner and Creative Director of Brooklyn Blooms), and moderated by Cliff Hunt. This event is free of charge and registration is requested but not required. Reception to follow with light bites provided by Chef Cliff Hunt/Culinary Cliff. Banner Photo by Matthew Murphy.
