Bronx Food & Farms Walking Tour: Highbridge Gardens

Saturday, August 12, 2017

10 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

Meet the tour guide at 10 a.m. at East 161st Street and Grand Concourse (3 blocks east of the 161-Yankee Stadium 4, B, D station). Tour leaves promptly at 10:30 a.m. Returns at 2:30 p.m.

The Highbridge section of the Bronx will be the theme of this month’s tour. Taking its name from the adjacent bridge built in 1848 by Irish immigrants, the Highbridge neighborhood has several community gardens occupying lots that were vacant between the 1970s and 1990s. Visit three longstanding community gardens to explore their history and meet the gardeners who currently care for them. We will visit La Isla Community Garden, Taqwa Community Farm, and the Bronx Target Garden. In partnership with Bronx Green-Up of The New York Botanical Garden, The Bronx Tourism Council, Montefiore, GreenThumb/NYC Parks, La Familia Verde, and Mary Mitchell Family and Youth Center.

Tour Guide: Bobby Gonzalez, Bronx historian.

Tickets are $15 by cash or check made payable to La Familia Verde.
Tour includes a delicious, healthy lunch catered by Bronx-based B .Blossom. To reserve your space, fill out this form or call 718.817.8026.
