Application for the Community Composter Certificate Course 2025

May 14, 21, 28; June, 4, 11, 18, & 25

Wednesdays; 6 to 8 p.m.

Are you a community gardener, teacher, or Bronx resident interested in waste reduction and community-building? The Bronx Green-Up Community Composter Certificate Course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of community composting, including hands-on training. Topics discussed include the history of composting in NYC, environmental justice, the science of soil health, organic soil amendments, composting system and site design, and tools for effective advocacy.

To become certified, participants must:

  • Attend 7 workshops (All Virtual)
  • Complete 9 hours of compost-related fieldwork with Bronx Green-Up
  • Attend 1 compost-related field-trip
  • Design and complete a final project

Enrollment priority will be given to Bronx-based community gardeners, urban farmers, and educators with a demonstrated interest in community composting, urban farming/gardening, and environmental justice. Capacity for each cohort is limited. All are welcome to apply.

*Please note: synchronous participation in six of the seven workshops is required to complete the Community Composting Certification Course, and participation in all six workshops is strongly suggested. If you have to miss a workshop, you will be responsible for communicating with the course facilitators and reviewing the content independently.
