Come join us for a mid-fall community celebration and dialogue honoring local wild plant ecologies. The James Baldwin Outdoor Learning Center (JBOLC), in collaboration with NYBG Herbarium + Community Initiative and Einstein School of Medicine, presents Meg’s Garden Tea Festival at the JBOLC Garden Community Farmers Market on October 26, 2024. The festival will offer opportunities to learn more about local medicinal and herbal plants and how to utilize their benefits in a garden setting resplendent with music and ceremony. Participants will experience the importance of biodiversity and be guided in dialogue around not only the uses of various plants, but what it means for people and plants to be in relationship and community.
Participants will be invited to rounds of tea tasting and encouraged to explore tea tasting terminology and grasp the anatomy/physiology of taste sensation. Herbal plants and products will be available and feel free to saunter the paths throughout Meg’s Garden and Edible Forest to discover the variety of wild medicinal plants and herbs already growing there. Enjoy nature art projects, herbal vendors, and more.
This event is funded in part by the Humanities of NY Action Grant through the Herbarium + Community Initiative, an interdisciplinary collaboration between community members and the NYBG Herbarium, Humanities Institute, and Bronx Green-Up, in partnership with the James Baldwin Outdoor Learning Center.
