    As one of the world’s largest and most important botanical and horticultural research libraries, the Mertz Library holds over 12 million items. Join Stephen Sinon, William B. O’Connor Curator of Special Collections, Research and Archives, and explore the treasures within the rare books collection.

    Ethnobotany is the study of human relationships to plants throughout history. Join our horticulture expert to delve into fascinating examples of ethnobotany in our tropical collections, from palm trees and orchids to vanilla and coffee. Learn about their uses as food, medicine, and protection, as well as their cultural significance to different groups around the world.

  • Steere Herbarium Tour: Spotlight on Women Botanists

    The William and Lynda Steere Herbarium is the centerpiece of the Garden’s botanical research program. Get a special look at preservation techniques and behind-the-scenes operations with Herbarium staff. In celebration of Women’s History Month, we’ll also discuss fascinating specimens in our collection that highlight the historical contributions of women botanists.

    Learn about the history and design of our garden collections, as well as the renowned women landscape architects behind them. Highlights include the Ladies’ Border (Ellen Biddle Shipman and Lynden B. Miller), Perennial Garden (Lynden B. Miller), and the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden (Beatrix Farrand).
