
NYBG/2030 Staff Week
May 9 – 15, 2022
All NYBG staff are invited to kick off the next Strategic Planning process with a week of engaging activities. Be a part of shaping NYBG’s future and connect with colleagues through Branch Out activities and tours, vision boarding, professional development, IDEA training, food, enrichment, and fun.
The schedule is listed below. Many events are drop-in, but advance sign-up is required for those with limited capacity. Learn more and register for individual events below, or on a sign-up sheet in your break room. Advance sign-ups closed on Thursday, May 5 and email invitations were sent on Friday, May 6. There is still space in some trainings listed below.

You will be assigned to attend one of the sessions listed below. Please look out for an email with your session’s date and time. Please note that this time may conflict with other NYBG/2030 Week sessions and that the IDEA training takes priority.

Ross Hall
Join us for the kickoff of the Strategic Planning Process, along with an overview of the week ahead and an orientation to the NYBG/2030 Vision Board in Ross Gallery.
Before or after the meeting, pick up your NYBG/2030 Week lunch voucher for $15 at the Pine Tree Cafe. Use your voucher anytime between May 10 and May 15. There will be other opportunities to pick up your voucher later in the week.

Join Todd Forrest, Arthur Ross VP for Horticulture and Living Collections, for a Garden-wide tram tour with live narration highlighting features and interesting facts about the Garden, collections, and management thereof.

Get to know Microsoft Teams and learn the top five tools to help you collaborate and get work done, all in one place. This course introduces the fundamentals of how to navigate the Teams app, meet in Teams, and start having conversations.

Gain an overview of which Spring plants can be used in tonics, tinctures, and salves to help reduce stress and boost immunity. Herbalist and ECAG Manager Arvolyn Hill will cover how to make and use several common herbal remedies.

Join yoga and tai chi instructor Tatiana from Bronx Body & Brain in a 60-minute, low-impact, guided yoga session focusing on controlled movement, breathing, and relaxation. Take a moment to breathe in and out amongst the lilac bushes. Come as you are! Office clothes are fine, and no special equipment is necessary.

Thain Family Forest entrance near Native Plant Garden
Allow yourself to be fully present as you bathe your senses in the sights, smells, sounds, and sensations of the Thain Family Forest with the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku. In Japanese shinrin means forest, and yoku means bath. Tour presented by Nicole Jay Elmgart, co-founder of Treebath Inc.

Take a stroll through the Garden with naturalist Ken Chaya to observe both resident and migratory birds. Discover how field marks, feather patterns, beak and body shapes, songs, and behaviors can help you identify particular species.

Have you ever driven by the gates and wondered what goes on at the Horticulture Operations Center? This is your chance to stop by and come on in! The HOC has three greenhouses, a compost tea brewer, pit houses for growing plants, in-ground field nursery, trucks, machinery, and more.

Pine Tree Cafe Tent
Explore making solar infused oils to use for massage, topical application in a salve, and culinary use. Guided by Jess Rose, the demonstration will focus on plants that help ease muscle tension and aches, such as arnica, St. John’s wort, and calendula. You’ll take home a small bottle of your own infused oil that you will make together.
