Fountain of Life
Designed by the American Renaissance sculptor Charles E. Tefft, the Lillian Goldman Fountain of Life is a dramatic composition featuring sea nymphs, seahorses, cherubs, and a startled mermaid and merman. The water falls into two basins of white marble.
Cascade
Created in the 1930s, the Rock Garden’s cascade was fully restored in 2014, renewing an iconic NYBG water feature. Temporarily closed to the public

Green Materials Recycling Center (Staff Only)
All of NYBG’s green waste is processed here. Fallen leaves, felled trees, and pruned branches are used to create wood chips and compost that adds organic nutrients back into the Garden.
Rock Garden
Nestled against the Forest like a secret garden, this quiet oasis is home to thousands of alpine flowers and woodland plants.
Mitsubishi Wetland Trail
Learn about aquatic environments on this nature walk, one of the best places to spot turtles, frogs, and other wildlife.
Clay Picnic Pavilions
Enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by the beauty of the Garden. Food is not available for purchase. Bring food from home or purchase items from NYBG’s various dining locations.
Daffodil Hill
The Garden springs to life with tens of thousands of daffodils in spring. Daffodil Hill includes many antique cultivars planted in the early 20th century.
Crabapple Collection
The 80 varieties of crabapple set around Daffodil Hill are stunning in early spring, when they blossom, and in fall, when brightly colored fruit hangs like ornaments.
Chilton Azalea Garden
The Azalea Garden features 3,000 azaleas and rhododendrons from around the world, planted beneath ancient native oaks, tulip trees, and sweetgums.

Native Plant Garden
The Native Plant Garden celebrates the beauty of plants native to this region. Nearly 100,000 trees, shrubs, wildflowers, ferns, and grasses harmonize with the natural landscape while providing shelter and sustenance for wildlife.
Everett Children's Adventure Garden
Kids can explore the wonders of nature with hands-on activities in a variety of environments.
Discovery Center
The Discovery Center hosts fun, educational activities for children and families. Temporarily closed to the public.

Goldman Stone Mill
The Stone Mill, built in 1840, is a National Historic Landmark and New York City Landmark.
Benenson Ornamental Conifers
The beautiful and unusual trees of the Benenson Ornamental Conifers demand to be admired all year long. Conifers of all shapes and sizes, from weeping to twisted, dwarfs to towering specimens, can be found here in shades of green, blue, and even yellow.
Nolen Greenhouse (Staff Only)
Behind-the-scenes growing facility where plants are cultivated in eight climate zones.
Burke-Sullivan Display House (Open Seasonally)
Open seasonally for exhibitions such as Kiku: The Art of the Japanese Chrysanthemum.
Steinhardt Maple Collection
Compare and contrast dozens of varieties of Japanese maple, displaying amazing variation in color, size, and shape.
Hope Tree Peony Collection
With inspiring names and gigantic, colorful flowers, the tree peonies are a diverse collection overlooking the Rose Garden.
Rockefeller Rose Garden
Designed by Beatrix Farrand in 1916, and fully realized in 1988, the Rose Garden features over 670 varieties, including many disease-resistant hybrids.
Burn Lilac Collection
Find 90 varieties of sweet-scented lilacs in colors from white and pale blue to lavender and deepest purple.
Cherry Collection
More than 200 cherry trees flower in abundance in early spring.
Waterfall
The Bronx River bisects the Garden and is home to myriad wildlife, including the occasional otter or beaver.
Edible Academy
Learn about growing vegetables, fruits, and herbs in the Edible Academy, designed for school groups and children’s programs as well as adults.
East Gate (Daytime Pedestrian Entry Point)
The East Gate provides access to NYBG from Bronx Park East. Open during NYBG opening hours. Access the Bx39 and Bx26 buses, as well as the 2 and 5 trains at Allerton Avenue.
Magnolia Collection
From March through April, these elegant and beautiful trees bloom in an array of pastel colors across the Garden grounds.
Thain Family Forest
The Thain Family Forest is the largest remaining tract of old growth forest that once covered most of New York City. Today the Forest is managed by NYBG to remove damaging invasive species and keep the the ecosystem healthy.

Steere Herbarium is the world’s second largest collection of dried plants and fungi, with more than 7 million specimens that form the basis of NYBG’s scientific research.

John J. Hoffee Tulip Tree Allée
This rare display of 100-year-old American tulip trees lines the path to the Mertz Library Building. Trees average 90 feet tall.
Metro-North Commuter Railroad
Metro-North Railroad provides easy access to the Botanical Garden train station, approximately 20 minutes from Grand Central Terminal.

Ross Conifer Arboretum

This farm-to-table restaurant spotlights the innovative flavors of New American cuisine as inspired by locally sourced, ethically produced ingredients from Hudson Valley farms and other regional producers.

Enid A. Haupt Conservatory
Discover our magnificent glasshouse with galleries featuring aquatic plants and vines, lush tropical rain forests, cactus-filled deserts, and many other natural habitats—and its palm dome, an architectural gem with majestic soaring species from around the world.
Matelitch Peony Collection
Peonies reach their peak in May with enormous blooms in pink, yellow, and white.
Ladies' Border
This border was designed in the 1930s by leading landscape architect Ellen Biddle Shipman. It is named in honor of the Women’s Auxiliary Committee who were instrumental in establishing many of NYBG’s collections.
Perennial Garden
Organized into consecutive garden “rooms,” the Perennial Garden is among the most formal landscapes at NYBG.
