About the Artist
Martirene Alcántara is a Mexican-American visual artist. As the daughter of two fine art painters, she grew up surrounded by the world of visual art, embracing photography as her medium. Her work is often described as “a convergence zone between photography and painting.” With an emphasis on lines and rhythm, she finds intimacy in her art.
Her images recreate, not an object, but the effect it produces, delving into their essence and creating a sense that evolves into the final piece. Martirene studied architecture, art, and photography, specializing in Architectural Photography. Her artwork is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)—a testament to its impact and significance in the art world.
