The countdown is OVER (almost). New York’s favorite tradition—the Holiday Train Show—opens tomorrow! 🗽🎄

It’s the perfect time to don your Santa hat and make your way to NYBG for the grand opening of our most cheerful event of the year. In the warmth of the Haupt Conservatory, there’s an entire miniature city of famous landmarks to wander through, brought to life with model trains busy zipping between miniature Manhattan row houses and iconic museums. And outside, the fun continues with a mountainscape full of twinkling bridges and locomotives.

Starting this Saturday, November 16, jump headlong into the holidays. Indoors and out, surround yourself with warmly-lit scenes of model trains passing through miniature cityscapes and mountainous displays, with all the energy of NYC during the holidays. And with Holiday Train Nights starting November 23, the show is a can’t-miss experience after dark, too!

While it took 11 months to train these Japanese ch

While it took 11 months to train these Japanese chrysanthemums, Kiku will only be around through Sunday. 🌼👀

Over the course of nearly a year, our expert staff have painstakingly grown, pinched, trimmed, and tied these plants to produce flowers in exact arrangements, creating shapes like these ‘kengai’ (cascade) displays, or the iconic ‘ozukuri’ (thousand bloom) plant that looks like a mountain. And you want to know what’s really wild? Each display emerges from only a SINGLE stem.

Kiku is on view now through November 17 in our Nolen Greenhouses, waiting for your visit.

It’s been a busy past two weeks in Cali, Colombia, as our scientists took part in #COP16, and we’re back with a recap of this important event. 🌎

Delegates from over 180 nations gathered in Colombia for @unbiodiversity’s biodiversity conference to discuss solutions to the crises our planet faces. Among them was NYBG's own delegation, including CEO Jennifer Bernstein; Chief Science Officer Dr. @mauriciodiazgranados; VP of Urban Conservation Dr. @ewsanderson; and Drs. Aleca Borsuk and Evelyn Beaury, each NYBG Assistant Curators. The critical work by this team advances real-world solutions around conservation, restoration, land use, regenerative agriculture—and plants, people, and culture. Alongside the stunning colors and crafts of our Fall Forest Weekend activities, our Kiku—trained Japanese chrysanthemums—are this weekend’s brightest stars. 🌟

Inside the Nolen Greenhouses, you’ll find sculptural plants that represent 11 MONTHS of meticulous work by our horticulture team, resulting in a world of flowers to explore that’s unlike anything you’ll see this season. And with @taikomasala bringing their incredible drum performances to the Garden Saturday and Sunday, we’re excited for this can’t-miss celebration of inspiring Japanese traditions.

Kiku won’t last forever—they’re only on view from November 2 to 17—so make time for a greenhouse stop during this weekend’s fun at NYBG!
