Children digging in soil in the Edible Academy

School Gardening 101

This is typically a resource for planning teaching gardens at schools, but can also be implemented at home.

Welcome to School Gardening 101, an online resource for educators planning teaching gardens at their schools. School gardens are a wonderful way to connect children to plants, gardening, food, nutrition, and the outdoors; The New York Botanical Garden is here to help! In each session you will find short videos, lesson plans, tip sheets, and other links for successfully creating a school garden.

This Web site complements a six-day Professional Learning Institute for teachers offered at The New York Botanical Garden. For more information about this course or other opportunities at the Garden, please visit the NYBG Professional Learning page or contact teachered@nybg.org or 718.817.8140.

Enjoy gardening!
