Juan Angulo
Graduate Fellow
Profile
Juan Angulo is interested in the evolution of Andean plants, with a particular focus on their environmental adaptations and reproductive systems and how each has led to current day geographical distributions. His Ph.D. research centers on a diverse group of Neotropical Miconia (Melastomataceae) species, exploring the evolution of dioecy in the group, as well as patterns of climatic niche evolution. By integrating herbarium, phylogenomic, and field-based approaches, he aims to explore the timing, mechanisms, and drivers behind Miconia‘s successful colonization within and outside of Andean environments.
