EcoFlora Community Science & Conservation

Community scientists can contribute to and explore the New York City EcoFlora project data in a variety of ways. You can view and add your own observations of plants, animals, insects, and other organisms throughout the city on iNaturalist. Or, you can view herbarium specimens and create checklists for specific areas on the EcoFloras of North America website. Learn more about this month’s EcoQuest, and explore the results of past EcoQuests.

Thanks to the efforts of our community scientists, we have published several new county and state records, held over 50 EcoQuests, and observed over 700,000 plants throughout the city. This data can be used to further education about urban biodiversity, and increase our ability to protect valuable ecosystems.
