City University of New York

Admission to CUNY’s Ph.D. Program in Biology is determined independently through a separate application to CUNY. Students may pursue a course of study through the Plant Sciences subprogram (generally systematics, genomics, or economic botany). The CUNY Graduate Center offers a broad range of courses in Biology, and Plant Science courses offered by NYBG faculty include Taxonomy of Vascular Plants, Plant Bioinformatics, Plant Development, Plant Morphology, On the Origin of Species, and Ethnobotany. The Biology program at CUNY belongs to a thriving community of Science Programs that includes Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Computer Science. Application information may be obtained through Admissions, CUNY Graduate Center. The deadline for applications is January 1, 2025.

International Center for Tropical Botany

This is a new NYBG partnership as of 2024! We are seeking graduate students in tropical plant diversity in partnership with the International Center for Tropical Botany at The Kampong and Florida International University. The ICTB is a collaborative effort between FIU and the National Tropical Botanical Gardens to develop programs in research, education and outreach in tropical plant biology. The ICTB has recently opened a world-class headquarters with offices, laboratories, and an herbarium, adjacent to The Kampong botanical gardens on Biscayne Bay in historic Coconut Grove (http://ntbg.org/gardens/kampong.php). Students will divide their time between the ICTB and NYBG.

Interested applicants should send a CV and a cover letter detailing the candidate’s research experience and interest relative to the key research themes to cbaralot@fiu.edu and lkelly@nybg.org. Candidates must apply to the FIU Graduate School by December 1, 2024. The position start dates will be in August 2025.
