Black History Month Celebration at NYBG

In celebration of Black History Month, NYBG and NYC Council Member Vanessa Gibson partnered to sponsor a wonderful awards ceremony and dinner at the acclaimed Garden Terrace Room. The affair catered to approximately 200 guests and awards were presented to NYCHA Tenant Leaders for their work in the Bronx community.

NYBG provided complimentary tickets to The Orchid Show: Jeff Leatham’s Kaleidoscope before the program and honored two community gardeners who worked with Ursula Chanse at the Bronx Green-Up project. Guests also had the opportunity to view specimens from our current library exhibition, Black Botany: The Nature of Black Experience. Bronx County Justice Judge Bahatti Pitts presented the keynote address and a special performance was provided by the Harvest Field Community Church Group.

It was an event of pure merriment and historical significance, and a great time was had by all!
